Charlene Keys, known professionally as Tweet, is an American singer-songwriter and guitarist. Born on January 21, 1971, in Rochester, New York, Tweet was introduced to the music industry by her parents, both gospel singers. Her love for music began at a young age, and by her early teens, she was performing with her family in a gospel group called 'The Spiritual Voices.'
In the 1990s, Tweet joined the girl group Sugah, where she met producer Timbaland and singer Missy Elliott, who would later become instrumental in her solo career. Following the group's disbandment, Tweet battled depression and financial issues before being rediscovered by Elliott.
In 2002, Tweet released her debut solo album, 'Southern Hummingbird,' which was met with critical acclaim. The album featured her hit single 'Oops (Oh My),' which reached number seven on the Billboard Hot 100 chart. Her unique blend of soul, R&B, and hip-hop with a touch of gospel influence set her apart in the music industry.
Despite the success of her debut, Tweet's subsequent albums didn't achieve the same commercial success, but she continued to be respected in the R&B world for her distinctive sound and raw, emotional lyrics. After a decade-long hiatus, she returned in 2016 with her third album, 'Charlene,' which was well-received by critics.
Throughout her career, Tweet has been lauded for her soulful voice and heartfelt songwriting, making her a memorable figure in the world of R&B. Her journey has been marked by both triumphs and trials, but her passion for music has remained a constant.
