Lucius
Lucius is an indie pop band from Brooklyn, New York, formed in 2007. The core of the group consists of lead vocalists Jess Wolfe and Holly Laessig, who met while attending Berklee College of Music in Boston. Known for their powerful harmonies, synchronized outfits, and dynamic live performances, Lucius has carved out a unique space in the indie music scene.
After moving to Brooklyn, Wolfe and Laessig began recording and performing together, eventually adopting the name Lucius for their collaborative project. Their debut EP, "Lucius," was released in 2012, showcasing their ability to blend vintage pop sensibilities with modern indie influences. This release was followed by their critically acclaimed full-length album, "Wildewoman," in 2013. The album received widespread praise for its catchy melodies, intricate vocal arrangements, and emotionally resonant lyrics.
Lucius' sound is characterized by the interplay between Wolfe's and Laessig's voices, which often sing in unison or tight harmonies, creating a singular vocal entity. Their music incorporates elements of folk, rock, pop, and soul, resulting in a diverse and engaging sonic palette.
Following "Wildewoman," Lucius released "Good Grief" in 2016 and "Nudes" in 2018, the latter being an acoustic album featuring covers and stripped-back versions of their own songs. Throughout their career, they have toured extensively, both as headliners and as supporting acts for bands like The Decemberists and Roger Waters, further establishing their reputation as a must-see live act.
In addition to their work as Lucius, Wolfe and Laessig have contributed vocals to various projects and albums by other artists, showcasing their versatility and broad appeal within the music industry. Their dedication to their craft and unique approach to songwriting and performance make Lucius a standout act in contemporary music.
