The Head And The Heart
The Head and The Heart is an American indie folk band that formed in the summer of 2009 in Seattle, Washington. The band's inception was a convergence of serendipity and mutual passion for music among its founding members Josiah Johnson (vocals, guitar, percussion), Jonathan Russell (vocals, guitar, percussion), Charity Rose Thielen (violin, guitar, vocals), Chris Zasche (bass), Kenny Hensley (piano), and Tyler Williams (drums). Their music is a blend of folk, rock, and Americana, characterized by rich harmonies, heartfelt lyrics, and a diverse range of instrumentation.
The band's self-titled debut album, "The Head and The Heart," was self-released in 2009 and later re-released by Sub Pop in 2011. The album garnered critical acclaim and commercial success, thanks in part to standout tracks like "Lost in My Mind" and "Rivers and Roads." Their follow-up album, "Let's Be Still," released in 2013, showcased a more polished sound and further solidified their position in the indie music scene.
Over the years, The Head and The Heart have continued to evolve musically and personally. Their third album, "Signs of Light" (2016), saw the band moving towards a more pop-oriented sound, with the lead single "All We Ever Knew" becoming their first number-one hit on the Adult Alternative Songs chart. The band's fourth album, "Living Mirage," was released in 2019, introducing fans to a more expansive and experimental sound.
Despite changes in lineup and musical direction, The Head and The Heart have remained true to their core ethos of creating emotionally resonant music. Their journey from open mic nights to major festival stages is a testament to their enduring appeal and the universal language of their songs.
