The Emotions
The Emotions are an American Grammy Award-winning soul/R&B vocal group from Chicago, Illinois. The band was formed in 1968, originally consisting of sisters Wanda, Sheila, and Jeanette Hutchinson. The trio was initially named "The Hutchinson Sunbeams" and sang gospel music under the guidance of their father, Joseph Hutchinson.
Their big break came in 1969 when they signed with Stax Records and released their first secular album, "So I Can Love You." The title track was a Top 10 R&B hit, and the group began to gain recognition. However, it was their 1977 collaboration with Earth, Wind & Fire's Maurice White that catapulted them to stardom. The album "Rejoice" featured the single "Best of My Love," which topped both the pop and R&B charts and won them a Grammy for Best R&B Performance by a Duo or Group with Vocals.
In the following years, the Emotions released several albums and singles, including "Don't Ask My Neighbors" and "Boogie Wonderland," another collaboration with Earth, Wind & Fire. Despite lineup changes, the group continued to perform and record into the 21st century, solidifying their legacy as one of the most influential female vocal groups of their era.
