The Delfonics
Delfonics—a legendary R&B and soul vocal group from Philadelphia! Formed back in 1965, they captured hearts with their unique sound. The originators were William "Poogie" Hart (born January 17, 1945 - passed away July 14, 2022), Wilbert Hart (born October 19, 1947), Randy Cain, and Ritchie Daniels.
The Delfonics were most famous in the late 1960s and early '70s, thanks to producer Thom Bell and their signature style. Symbolic of the Philly sound, their music combined a smoother soul touch—influenced by Phil Spector's "Wall of Sound"—with classic doo-wop elements. Initial successes included "La-La Means I Love You," a song that reflects their unique vocal blend with William Hart's candy-coated tenor.
Major Harris also joined the group in 1971 after Randy Cain's departure. The Delfonics earned a spot in the Atlantic City Walk of Fame in 2023. William Hart, even posthumously, was dedicated to sharing clean music with fans; he's passed away in 2022.
The current line-up of the Delfonics includes William Hart, Garfield Fleming (baritone lead), and Johnny ("JJ") Johnson. Wilbert Hart is still active in a separate group as of 2022.
