Plies
Algernod Lanier Washington, known professionally as Plies, is an American rapper and songwriter born in Fort Myers, Florida on July 1, 1976. Plies was a wide receiver on the football team of Miami University in Ohio in 1996 and 1997 before he became a rapper.
After dropping out of college, Plies founded Big Gates with his stepbrother. Signed to Slip-n-Slide Records, from 2007 to 2008, he released three albums. Plies debuted in 2007 with "The Real Testament" which featured successful singles "Shawty" and "Hypnotized". Plies also released two albums in 2008, "Definition of Real" and "Da REAList", and later released "Goon Affiliated" in 2010.
Plies' music is typically characterized by his Southern Hip Hop style, with lyrics often reflecting the trials and tribulations of street life. Despite his success in music, Plies has also faced legal issues, including a shooting at one of his concerts in 2006, which he was later found civilly liable for.
However, Plies has continued to produce and release music, maintaining a loyal fan base and collaborating with artists like Ne-Yo, T-Pain, and DJ Khaled. His longevity in the music industry and his raw storytelling ability have solidified his place in the rap game.
