The band was formed by high school friends Levi Benton (lead vocals), Justin Aufdemkampe (lead guitar), BJ Stead (rhythm guitar), Jerod Boyd (drums), and Ryan Neff (bass guitar and clean vocals). Their music is characterized by a blend of melodic choruses and aggressive metalcore elements.
The band's first release, an EP titled "Vows for a Massacre," came out in 2007, followed by their debut full-length album, "Apologies Are for the Weak," in 2009, which made it onto the Billboard Top Heatseekers chart. In 2010, they released "Monument," their second full-length album, which was re-released with additional tracks in 2011.
Miss May I's third album, "At Heart," in 2012, showcased a more mature sound, followed by "Rise of the Lion" in 2014, which debuted at number 21 on the Billboard 200. Their fifth album, "Deathless," was released in 2015, followed by "Shadows Inside" in 2017.
