Emery is an influential American rock band known for their distinctive blend of melodic hardcore, emo, and post-hardcore genres. The band was formed in 2001 in Rock Hill, South Carolina by Toby Morrell, Matt Carter, Joel Green, Devin Shelton, and Seth Studley. They named the band 'Emery' in honor of a first-grade teacher who pushed them to pursue their music dreams.
In 2002, the band relocated to Seattle, Washington, where they signed with Tooth & Nail Records, a label known for promoting Christian rock bands. Their debut album, "The Weak's End," was released in 2004, receiving positive reviews for its intense, emotionally charged lyrics and unique blend of styles.
Emery's music is characterized by its complex arrangements, experimental approach to songwriting, and the use of multiple vocalists. Their lyrics often explore personal and spiritual themes, and they are known for their energetic live shows.
Over the years, Emery has released several successful albums, including "The Question" (2005), "I'm Only A Man" (2007), and "In Shallow Seas We Sail" (2009). The band underwent several lineup changes but continued to create music and tour extensively.
Despite their commercial success, Emery has remained grounded in their independent roots. In addition to their music, the band members run a podcast called "Bad Christian," where they discuss faith, culture, and music. Emery's enduring passion for their craft and their commitment to honest, thoughtful songwriting has solidified their place in the modern rock landscape.
