Durand Jones, born July 22, 1988, is an American soul singer and frontman of the band Durand Jones & The Indications. Born and raised in Hillaryville, Louisiana, Jones' early life was steeped in gospel music, a significant influence on his soulful sound. He attended Southeastern Louisiana University on a saxophone scholarship, where he studied classical music and jazz.
Jones' music career began serendipitously when he was asked to sing for a recording project by some of his classmates at Indiana University’s Jacobs School of Music. This led to the formation of Durand Jones & The Indications in 2012, comprised of Jones and bandmates Aaron Frazer, Blake Rhein, Kyle Houpt, and Steve Okonski.
Their self-titled debut album, released in 2016, was met with rave critical reviews and quickly gained a substantial fanbase. The band's sound is a blend of vintage soul and modern heartache, reminiscent of the 60s and 70s soul era. Their second album, "American Love Call," released in 2019, further solidified their place in the contemporary soul scene.
Durand Jones is known for his powerful, emotive vocals and passionate performances. His music has been praised for its social commentary, addressing issues such as racial inequality and economic disparity, reflecting the political consciousness of classic soul.
Despite the vintage sound, Jones and his band have a contemporary and fresh take on soul music, creating a unique blend that appeals to a wide audience. His journey from the gospel choir to the soulful frontman has made Durand Jones a compelling figure in the modern music landscape.
